Run, Dominate, Repeat!

Oklahoma City—The 2025 OSSAA 1A/2A State Track and Field Championship was held at Western Heights HS (OKC) on May 9th and 10th. The two-day event featured athletes from Davenport, Stroud, and Wellston high schools.


Day 1 (Friday, May 9th): The field events opened the state track meet at 9:30 am. Stroud’s Mia Moore competed in the Class 2A girls long jump event, with a mark of 14’8.25,” to place 9th overall. Aiden Collins (Stroud HS) also competed in the long jump event for the Class 2A boys and captured the gold medal, with a measurement of 22’2.75,” becoming the state champion in the event.

Davenport’s Amarie Bobo finished at the top of the podium in the Class A girls shot put event, with a measurement of 35’7,” to be crowned as the state champion in the shot put. Wellston High School’s 4x800 meter (girls) relay team took home the bronze medal, posting a time of 10:35.47. The four members on Wellston’s relay were Savanah Gaylord, Josie Murray, Dacie Murray, and Ava Davenport. In the Class A boys 3200-meter run, Wellston’s Wylee Terrell ran a time of 10:39.12 to place 7th overall.

In the preliminaries of the track events, Stroud’s Peyton Davis competed in the Class 2A girls 100-meter hurdles, 100-meter dash, and the 200-meter dash. During the 100-meter hurdles, Davis finished the preliminary race in a time of 14.54 seconds, to break both her (own) school record (14.86 secs set in 2025) and the state record of 14.88 seconds, set back in 2019. In the 100-meter dash preliminaries, Davis ran a time of 11.94 seconds in her heat, just shy of breaking the 1982 state meet record of 11.91 seconds. Her performance led to her breaking her own school record for the second time this season. Her previous school record was set last year (2024) at the state track meet in 12.17 seconds. However, she has posted times of 12.10 and 11.90 seconds during the 2025 track season to break both of her own school record and beat the 43-year-old state meet record time of 11.91.

For the 200-meter dash preliminaries, Peyton Davis ran a time of 24.70 seconds in the race to break her own school record (24.87 secs set in 2024) and broke the state record of 24.84 seconds, set back in 2023. To conclude the first day of the state competition, Stroud HS competed in the Class 2A girls 4x200 meter relay. The relay of Aubree Ackerman, Jordyn Neeley, Olivia Stanger, and Peyton Davis placed 5th overall with a time of 1:49.01.



Day 2 (Saturday, May 10th): Championship Saturday opened with the Class 2A boys high jump event. Stroud’s Ty Peterson competed in the event, to place 5th overall, with a height of 6’0.” Kason Presley (Stroud HS) threw a distance of 42’7.50” in the Class 2A boys shot put to finish in 5th place. In the Class 2A girls high jump, Stroud HS freshman Sophie Young captured the gold medal with a height measuring 5’4,” being crowned with the title “State Champion.” Carly DeLeon and Miyah Clark (both from Stroud HS) competed in the 2A girls shot put. DeLeon finished 8th overall with a mark of 33’9.50” and Clark finished 10th overall with a throw of 32’1.50.”

In the Class 2A girls sprint finals, Stroud’s Peyton Davis won a gold medal in the 100-meter hurdles, 100-meter dash, and the 200-meter dash. The 2024 defending state champion won the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 14.58 secs to become a 2X state 100-meter hurdles champion. Davis was a 2X defending state champion in the 100-meter dash and ran 11.95 seconds in the finals to claim her third straight 100-meter state championship. In the 200-meter dash, Davis was the defending 2024 state champion in the event and claimed her second straight state championship (on Saturday) with an impressive time of 24.64 seconds, breaking the state record again.


Ripley HS athlete Audrey Donaldson and Stroud HS athlete Aubree Ackerman competed in the Class 2A girls' 300-meter hurdles. Donaldson finished the race in 46.53 seconds to take the silver medal as the state runner-up, and Ackerman finished in 47.51 seconds to receive the bronze medal. Ackerman’s performance set a new school record in the event, beating the 2019 record by 0.07 seconds. Jacob Beck (Stroud HS) won a silver medal in the Class 2A boys 110-meter-high hurdles, finishing the race in 15.47 seconds, becoming the state runner-up.

In the Class 1A girls' 800-meter run, Wellston’s Savanah Gaylord finished the race in 2:26.89, taking home the silver medal as the state runner-up. Wellston’s (girls) 4x400-meter relay team of Ava Davenport, Kamber Goodman, Dacie Murray, and Savanah Gaylord ran a 4:19.48 to secure a bronze medal for their team. Wylee Terrell (Wellston HS) ran 4:50.75 in the Class 1A boys 1600-meter run to place 7th overall, and competed in the 4x400-meter relay. Wellston’s 4x400-meter relay consisted of Landon Kulp, Nikolas Cozart, Tyson Milner, and Wylee Terrell, who finished the relay in 4:00.39, placing 15th overall.
